Terms & Conditions
This Hackathon is organised by MetLife Solutions Pte. Ltd (“we”, “our” or “us”). By registering for this Hackathon, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions.
ELIGIBILITY
- All applicants must be 18 years old and above.
- This Hackathon is open to individuals from all countries (unless prohibited or restricted by any sanction, embargo or other law).
- Employees of us and our affiliates, as well as individuals engaged to work for us as independent contractors, are not eligible to participate in this Hackathon.
OBJECTIVE OF THE HACKATHON
The Hackathon invites individuals from the public to participate in a coding challenge with a potential opportunity to receive an employment offer from us or our affiliate in Malaysia.
COMPETITION MECHANICS
- Successful applicants will receive an e-mail confirmation within 7 (seven) working days after submitting the application form. We reserve the right to reject your application or prevent further participation in this Hackathon at our sole and absolute discretion.
- This is a team competition. Applicants will be grouped into teams by us.
- Interested applicants are required to register online by October 10, 2022 at 6.00pm.
- All participants will be required to attend the main virtual Hackathon between 14th - 15th of October 2022, which will begin with a Kickoff Briefing at 8.00pm on Day 1.
- You’re not allowed to pre-code anything or submit existing projects. You’re allowed to work with any open source resources that are publicly available.
- You’re required to develop your solution using your own computers/laptops. Relevant tools will be provided by us.
- The entire Hackathon will be facilitated via our virtual event platform.
- All projects must be completed for the 1st round of evaluation on or before 4.00pm on 15th October 2022. Each team is allowed to submit only 1 (one) entry.
- The Panel of Judges for Round 1 will shortlist the Top 5 teams who will then present their projects to our panel of Grand Judges on the same day.
- The judges’ decision is final and no communication in this regard shall be entertained.
- Nothing herein shall constitute an employment, joint venture or partnership relationship between you or your team and us.
- Only shortlisted candidates for Career Opportunities will be invited to interviews on Sunday, 15th October 2022.
HACKATHON PRIZES
- The prizes awarded to winning teams are described in the Hackathon website.
- We reserve the absolute right to substitute any prize(s) with other item(s) of similar values at any time with prior notice by means of communication that may deemed appropriate by us. The prizes shall be given on an “as is” basis.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- We may, in our sole discretion, offer an employment opportunity to selected participant(s) of the Hackathon. Such selected participant(s) will still be required to successfully complete our standard recruitment processes, including interviews and pre-employment checks.
- Selected participants who have been successfully recruited will be granted an employment offer to work for us or one of our affiliates in Malaysia. We will determine the terms of employment under a separate employment contract.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
- You will own any intellectual property, presentation or work product developed by you in connection with the Hackathon (“Developed Materials”). You allow us and our affiliates, representatives, employees to use the Developed Materials in connection with: (i) evaluating the Developed Materials for the purpose of awarding prizes in the Hackathon, (ii) evaluating your suitability for employment, and (iii) advertising or promoting the Hackathon. You agree not to assert any intellectual property rights or any other legal or moral rights you may have in the Developed Materials against us.
- The Developed Materials must be your original work. You will ensure that the Developed Materials and its use will not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. You will also ensure that that you have the right to furnish the Developed Materials, which will be delivered free of all restrictions with respect to our permitted uses under these terms and conditions. At the time of delivery, you must disclose any third-party ownership rights and open-source code used in connection with the Developed Materials.
CONFIDENTIALITY
You shall keep confidential all proprietary and/or non-public information relating to us, our affairs or our business or identity of other participants (“Confidential Information”). You will not, without our prior written consent, disclose Confidential Information in whole or in part, whether verbally or in writing, to any other person and will use Confidential Information solely in connection with your participation of the Hackathon.
PERSONAL DATA
- Personal data collected about you will be subject to our privacy policy located at https://www.metlife.com/about-us/privacy-policy/ and the MetLife Data Privacy Notice and Consent to Use Candidate Data (MetLife Hack4Job 2022 Coding Challenge).
- We may share, disseminate or distribute any of your personal data without consent if required to do so under any applicable law, court ruling or administrative body of competent jurisdiction.
- You acknowledge that you may be screen captured, photographed, recorded and filmed during this Hackathon. You agree and consent that any images, audio recordings or videos taken during the Hackathon will be used by us to promote this event, any future events, in press releases, printed publicity and across all digital marketing platforms.
CANCELLATION & POSTPONEMENT
We reserve the rights to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of any actual and anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulations or any other event outside of our control. For the avoidance of doubt, you are not entitled to any claim or compensation against us for any or all losses or damages suffered or incurred whether directly or indirectly, as a result of any postponement or cancellation of the event.
DISCLAIMER, INDEMNITY AND RIGHT OF THE ORGANISERS
- You will be responsible for (and you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless us, our staffs/employees, directors, affiliates, other partners and/or agents of the Hackathon from and against) any and all claims, actions, suits or proceedings, as well as any and all losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or accruing from any content which is created or submitted by you during the Hackathon (including the Developed Materials) which infringes another person's rights, including any copyright, trademark, trade secret, trade dress or patent and any disruption the Hackathon web site(s) and/or its related platform(s).
- IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSSES OR DAMAGES INCURRED BY YOU, WHETHER DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, GENERAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL, INCLUDING LOST OR ANTICIPATED PROFITS, SAVINGS, INTERRUPTION TO BUSINESS, LOSS OF BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, THE COST OF RECOVERING SUCH LOST INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS ARISING FROM THE USE OF, OR THE INABILITY TO USE, THE ENVIRONMENT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU HAVE ADVISED US OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
GENERAL
- We reserve the absolute right to change, amend and/or vary the mechanics of the Hackathon and/or vary any of these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

- These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of Malaysia and you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Malaysia.
