What is JomHack Varsity Challenge 2025? 🚀 JomHack Varsity Challenge is an exciting national-level hackathon that brings together the brightest young minds to explore the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the course of 48 action-packed hours, students will develop innovative and impactful AI-driven applications, tackling real-world challenges using cutting-edge Python and JavaScript frameworks.

Hackathon Timeline
Apply as a team of 3-5 pax by filling up our form. All students; both undergraduate and postgraduate will compete in the same track. Only shortlisted teams will be invited to join the hackathon.
We will shortlist teams in batches so apply early for higher chances of getting shortlisted for this hackathon. Lookout for the confirmation email from us! Don't forget your spam folder too.
There will be a virtual Pre-Hack Briefing on 22 April for all selected teams to help you prepare for the main event.
The Virtual Hackathon will begin on Friday, 25 April 2025 at 6.00pm with the full details to kickoff the projects, ending with the Grand Finals for the Top 10 on Sunday, 27 April.

Here are the challenges you can tackle for this Hackathon. Please select one of the following challenges for your team. You may tackle more than 1 challenge in your project but it's not a must.

AI for Education & Learning
Enhance education with AI-driven tutoring, automated assessments and adaptive learning. Build tools that personalise learning, bridge knowledge gaps or support educators in curriculum planning and student engagement.
AI for Smart Cities
Leverage AI to improve urban planning, reduce traffic, enhance public safety or optimise energy use. Create intelligent transportation systems, smart waste collection or AI-driven disaster response.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fill up the application form with your full team details and introduction. Assemble a team of 3-5 members, including at least 1 member with Python or JavaScript coding skills. All participants must be 18 years and above. Only the shortlisted teams will be invited to join the Hackathon. We do not accept any individual participants.
No! The hackathon is open to students of all skill levels. We’ll provide experienced mentors to guide you along the way. Do make sure you have at least basic Python or JavaScript coding skills.
No, this hackathon is only open to Malaysian students above 18 currently enrolled in Malaysian tertiary educational institutions.
Teams must build their projects using Python or JavaScript but can include any libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, FastAPI and more. You’re free to use any tools that align with your project.
No, this is a fully virtual hackathon! All coding, mentoring and judging will take place online so you can join from anywhere in Malaysia.
None! This programme is completely FREE for all eligible participants. The organisers will take care of everything you need to ensure you have a great hackathon experience.
We want highly innovative and practical solutions, with originality and good design. We will also evaluate the business value of the idea and technical ability of the team members to execute the project. Of course, they need to be highly relevant to the problem statements.
